Can you get sick from quitting smoking?

Smoking cessation is an act where a smoker tries to stop smoking. Nowadays, this act keeps on increasing thanks to the awareness that was spread by the healthcare professionals through a lot of platforms such as social media platforms or the mass media platform. Smokers and the citizens now know more about smoking habits, and it can be safely said that smoking cigarettes is a bad habit that can be detrimental to our health. This is particularly true because a cigarette itself contains so many harmful substances. These substances such as lead, tar and nicotine are some of the major substances that can give bad effects to our organs especially the lung. When they enter our body, these particles will adhere to our lungs and cause certain damages. By time, the function of the lung will keep on decreasing and will reach a low point where it cannot function anymore. This is where the smoker has a chance to develop some lung diseases such as lung cancer, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder) or even asthma attack. Obviously, it is better to opt for smoking cessation rather than having any of these diseases.

However, smoking cessation is not a simple task. Many smokers had tried to stop smoking but failed miserably. Why is this happening? It is because they do not have the discipline and determination to stop smoking. Besides, there can also be other factors such as not using the correct method which can cause a relapse behavior. Another reason that smokers gave is because they get sick from quitting smoking. Is this true? Well, getting sick from quitting smoking is not especially true because your life will obviously get healthier once you stop smoking. It is just that you might be feeling some withdrawal symptoms after you decide to stop smoking, which is often falsely interpreted by the smokers as feeling sick.

A smoker that tries to suddenly stop smoking will get these symptoms. This happens because your body did not get the craved cigarette that it usually gets everyday. One of the culprits for this is called nicotine. Nicotine is a substance inside a cigarette that tells your brain to always find a cigarette to smoke. In simpler terms, nicotine is the one that makes you crave for more cigarettes. In order to help smokers quit smoking without feeling sick, scientists had done their best and introduced nicotine replacement therapy. What is a nicotine replacement therapy and how is it used?

Nicotine replacement therapy is a therapy that uses nicotine from other sources and helps replace the craved nicotine from a cigarette. This is a brilliant idea that can help smokers to take their daily nicotine without needing to smoke a cigarette. With this method, they will not feel sick anymore and will not experience the withdrawal symptoms initiated by nicotine. Plus, nicotine replacement therapy also comes in a different form such as nicotine gum, skin patch and also lozenges. So, you must choose one that is suitable for your daily routine. Besides that, all of these therapies can easily be found at any pharmacy or health stores nearby your area. So, it is not a hustle to get one. If you are thinking of smoking cessation, then nicotine replacement therapy is the way to go. However, choosing to use it alone is not enough. As stated, you must have the right motivation to stop smoking. Besides, you also need to lead a healthier lifestyle in order for this method to be successful. Hence, eating a healthy diet or daily exercise is a good place to start.
