Hair Loss for Women

Hair Loss for Women – Effective Female Hair Loss Treatment

Female hair loss can cause physical, psychological, and emotional effects. Hair loss for women is usually much more emotionally devastating than it is for men, and can even cause marital and career problems. Understanding how it comes about as well as how to effectively treat it can improve a woman’s life immeasurably.

Hair loss for women occurs less than it does for men. However, up to 30 million women in the United States suffer with hair loss or thinning and tend to experience a greater degree of emotional distress due to the condition. Hair loss for women can become a huge problem, requiring female hair loss treatment to resolve the problem.

Hair Loss for Women – Are Hormones the Culprit

Hormones are a common cause of hair loss for women and can develop because of menopause, ovarian cysts, birth control pills, pregnancy, and other events. Hair loss for women does not usually occur until after the age of 50, but can occur earlier in life, particularly following events such as chronic illness, certain diets, nutritional deficiencies, and of course stress.

Typically, hair will grow about one half inch per month for anywhere from two to six years. Once a hair has completed its growth phase it has a tendency to fall out and become replaced by new hair growth. The new hair will develop in the same follicle that the old hair disappeared from. Hair loss for women is a normal fact of life, and when it causes thinning or baldness it can become a huge emotional problem.

Alopecia is the medical term used for hair loss, and androgenic alopecia signifies that the hair loss is due to excessive androgen activity. Androgenic alopecia in men, also called male pattern baldness, usually causes a loss of hair in well-defined patterns. Hair thinning will typically occur at the top of the head which can result in a rim of hair on the sides and back of the head. Occasionally, it can result in complete baldness.

What is a Major Cause of Hair Loss for Women?

Androgenic alopecia is not the major cause of hair loss for women and rarely results in total baldness, as it can in men. Additionally, it does not cause the hairline to recede, but causes the hair to become thinner all over the head. When androgenic alopecia occurs in women, dermatologists usually refer to it as female pattern hair loss.

There are many types of hair loss for women remedies that can add hair to the scalp or at least give the illusion of a thicker head of hair. Some of these female hair restoration procedures are cheap and simple while others are expensive and time-consuming. For some women, solving the problem can be as easy as wearing a wig or hat. For others, it can involve a complete female hair transplant with its associated high female hair transplant cost.

Many times a female hair loss problem can be stopped by changing the diet. This can be a hard thing to do for many women, but it can often give tremendous results. It is important to eliminate certain foods and chemicals such as caffeine (coffee, soda pop, and high energy drinks), nicotine (cigarettes), alcohol, and the three whites (salt, refined sugar, and white flour).

In addition to eliminating the bad stuff, you need to eat the good stuff. This means you should eat lots of fresh raw fruits and vegetables. It is also important to drink plenty of clean filtered water every day. Taking a good multivitamin supplement that includes iron is usually a good idea as well.

Other female hair loss remedies can include hair weaves, either glued to the scalp or weaved into the hair, hair extensions, a different type of hairstyle or cut, and even a hair transplant for women. It is also a good idea to determine the cause of the hair loss for women before attempting any drastic female hair restoration procedures. Using natural approaches can often bring better and longer-lasting results. For example, if a birth control pill is causing hair loss for women, taking a different type of birth control pill or taking anti-androgens may solve the problem.

Hair loss for women can be emotionally devastating to a woman, but there are many hair loss remedies that will eliminate or hide the problem. Starting with the cheaper and more natural approaches is usually the best method, but if the desired results are not obtained you can always check out other hair loss for women treatment methods.
