5 Tips for Aftercare from Cosmetic Surgery

Getting cosmetic surgery done is an exciting thing for most patients as it helps in improved appearance and self-esteem. Sometimes cosmetic surgery is done for health purposes such as changing the nose shape so the patient can breathe easily. As much as the surgery is important, its aftercare is even more important as the recovery phase starts right after surgery. But, the benefits of plastic surgery trump all the hardships and pain it takes to undergo it.

Let’s take a look at the recovery options every cosmetic surgery patient can follow to speed up recovery.

  1. Don’t try to act tough

Pain, swelling and bruising are all part of the body’s natural recovery process. These are normally occurring factors post-surgery. Many patients ignore the pain and try to tough it out, but it is important to take painkillers as you are prescribed. You will be doing yourself a disservice by lengthening your recovery time if you choose to ignore your pain and don’t do something about it.

Avoid over-the-counter pain medications or home remedies, which can cause side effects and may also interfere with prescription medications. You can consider ordering the prescribed medicines online but you might think why buy Canadian drugs online? Well, the answer is in its many benefits the online pharmacy provides its customers including top-quality pain medications. So take proper pain medications post-surgery and drink lots of fluids.

  1. Move around

The first 48 hours or so after surgery are extremely important in terms of recovery. You will need plenty of rest but don’t think that you should just stay in bed all day. Physical activity helps your body heal, and also reduces pain levels.

Be sure to get up once in a while to keep the blood flowing. Simple activities like walking around your house for a few minutes, or a few gentle stretching movements, are better for your health.

  1. Skip the gym.

Strenuous exercise, such as weightlifting or running, can be a setback for your recovery process. Many patients are eager to return to their normal workout routines, but it is important to avoid rigorous exercise for several weeks after surgery. Exercise speeds up the blood pressure which can increase inflammation, bleeding and bruising. Even if you are ready to return to the gym, ask your surgeon before resuming your exercise routine.

  1. Don’t smoke.

Patients, who smoke, should quit at least eight weeks before undergoing cosmetic surgery. This is because of how it affects your blood circulation. Smoking delays the healing process and can lead to serious complications during and after surgery.

  1. Apply ice packs if instructed

If you undergo any type of cosmetic surgery it is important to apply ice packs to minimize the swelling. If you have bandages covering the surgery area, you can periodically ice the area. The pressure from the ice packs helps make scars softer and less visible. Ice packs also help with numbing the pain.
