Just think of a situation wherein you are with one of your friends or relatives and all of a sudden their heart gets blocked or stops beating completely. In such a situation, there is a high risk of heart attack or cardiac arrest and every single minute counts to save the sufferer’s life. But if you know how to perform CPR and having first aid training, you can likely help to keep that person alive until the ambulance gets there.

Now, you might be wondering what actually CPR is? Here, you’ll get to know all about CPR and how important role it can play in saving someone’s life. So, take a quick look:

What is CPR?

Short form for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, CPR is actually a first aid practice that is very easy to learn and can keep the sufferer, who get an abrupt cardiac arrest or other medical emergency, breathing until medical experts deal with it. In fact, if you would like to be certified in CPR you can do so at a reputable CPR training center such as Heart Start CPR.

What Does CPR Perform?

For your information CPR allows the blood keep pumping all through the body, which is very much important to keep up essential organs working. In general, there are two main objectives of CPR; the first one is to let the oxygen flow in and out of the lungs and second is to keep oxygenated blood running all over the body.

In line with the heart specialists, the moment heart stops beating, the person can become brain dead in just 3-4 minutes. CPR has ability to keep the victim alive, and experts recommend performing it immediately. More to the point, it works by giving oxygen into the mouth and flowing blood artificially through chest compression.

There is no denying to the fact that oxygen is important to keep somebody alive, and through mouth-to-mouth resuscitation one can send it directly into the victim’s body. You have a few minutes prior to giving oxygen turns out to be important. In addition to this, after the heart fails to beat, oxygen stays in the body for sometime, which keeps the brain & organs active. But the important thing is this oxygen needs assistance to flow, and for this reason the act of compressing chest plays a vital role.

Some people question “Is performing CPR harmful for a person? No, it is not at all. You can always go for it when such a situation occurs and even if you’re not certain it will work. Keep in mind that if someone fails to breath, CPR can mean the difference between life and death. Therefore, you should always perform it albeit you are in doubt it will work. Additionally, CPR doesn’t guarantee that the person will survive, it just improves the possibilities.

In an ideal world, at a time of an emergency, no one is alone. You can always call an ambulance and carry out CPR. Make the first move to do it on your own and after that somebody else can take over. But make sure the CPR is continuously done until help reach there. As per the experts, it usually takes from 9 to 14 minutes for an ambulance to reach at an emergency place.
