Hearing aids need to be looked after in order to make it work in a good condition. Your hearing aids should be considered an investment and you must protect them by all means to ensure that you always have them around to wear. If you know how to look after your hearing aids suggested by Audiology Centre West, you can keep many problems at bay that results from improper handling or maintenance. All you need to do is keep them clean, store them in place and know when not to wear them.

Storing

When not wearing your hearing aids, you should know how to store them and the hearing aid batteries as well. Always keep them safe in a cool and dry place so that they aren’t impacted by moisture, cold or heat. Don’t keep them in a bathroom, don’t take them off in bedroom before you go in the shower or bath. People living in humid areas keep their hearing aids in hearing aid dehumidifier. You also need to keep them someplace safe so that they don’t get damaged or stolen. In other words, keeping them away from children and pets in particular.

Cleaning

When you keep your hearing aids clean, you can keep many issues at bay. Many issues related to sound can be caused because of accumulation of wax and debris. You can keep your hearing aids clean by wiping them clean with the help of a soft cloth on a regular basis so as to keep it away from dust and dirt. Another alternative is to use a dry toothbrush or a dry cotton swab to clean the earwax on your hearing aid that is accumulated on receiver and mic. You can also go for professional cleaning and/or purchase a special hearing aid cleaning kit.

Changing the batteries

Your hearing aid batteries must be cleaned on a regular basis. This can be done in every few weeks or days. Always have some spare batteries handy so that you can change them if needed. When the batteries are dead, you need to change them ASAP so that you don’t trap the moisture inside the equipment. Also leave the battery compartment open all the time when you are not wearing your hearing aids.

When not to wear

Don’t wear them in moist and humid areas like bathroom or sauna or swimming. Always keep them shielded from heat and moisture. When styling your hair, put your hearing aids on when done. Keep them away from hairdryer or styling products.
